An Orthodox Look at Islam

20150514_191127_HDR_smOn May 14, 2015, Fr. Tom Soroka addressed the growth of radical Islam before one-hundred people at Saint Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral. His talk on “An Orthodox Christian View of Islam” was the third in the inaugural year of the “Times They Are a Changing” series on contemporary moral issues. Fr. Tom traced the history of the growth of Islam and the affect it has had historically on Orthodoxy, especially in the Middle East.

Following his talk, many thoughtful questions were posed, and a lively dialogue ensued. Several of the questions came from members of the audience who identified themselves as practicing Muslims.

This new lecture series was developed under the guidance of the Parish Growth Committee chaired by Eileen Glisan. The committee is presently exploring topics and speakers for the second year of this lecture series. Anyone with suggestions may contact the committee.
